BASIL MEZCAL SOUR COCKTAIL

RECIPES
TIME TO MAKE:

8 MIN

The smooth taste of a Basil Mezcal Sour cocktail is one of the most enjoyable sips you can take. The tangy-sweet layers of citrus are met with a delicate hint of smoke, for a refreshing cocktail that’s perfect for summer nights.

The herbaceous basil, sour lime juice and sugar go so well together, and that’s before you introduce the tantalizingly smoky flavour of the Mezcal. Complete with some finely cut fatalii pepper for a subtle heat to finish.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 Spicy bush basil leaves (plus 1 for garnish)
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 tbsp superfine sugar
  • 1 ½ oz mezcal
  • 1/2 oz Cointreau
  • 1 egg white
  • Ice
  • Pinch of fire hybrid pepper
  • Pinch of Himalayan salt

MADE WITH

SPICY BUSH BASIL
FIRE HYBRID PEPPER

DIRECTIONS

  1. Place a coupe glass in the freezer to chill.
  2. Place the crushed basil leaves, lime juice, and sugar in a cocktail shaker; muddle vigorously.
  3. Add the Mezcal, Cointreau, and egg white.
  4. Shake vigorously without ice, emulsifying the egg white.
  5. Fill the shaker halfway with ice. Shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker is frosty.
  6. Double-strain into the chilled glass.
  7. Garnish with the finely cut fatalii pepper, basil leaf, and Himalayan salt.
